Edit In Excel

Good afternoon,

My edit in excel feature was working just fine, now the “options” screen in excel is blank/black.

I don't know where or how to find my Server information.

    Hi there,

This sounds like the Dynamics Office Add-in pane failed to load properly rather than an actual missing server setting, a few things worth trying in order:

    1. Refresh/reload the add-in: Close the workbook, and in Excel go to Insert > Add-ins > My Add-ins, remove the Microsoft Dynamics add-in, then re-add it. This often clears a corrupted/blank pane state.

    2. Sign-in issue: Sometimes the pane looks blank/black because it's stuck waiting on an authentication popup that opened in the background (or got blocked). Check for a hidden sign-in window, or try signing out of your Microsoft 365 account in Excel entirely (File > Account > Sign out) and back in.

    3. If you do need to re-enter Server URL manually: click the small icon/gear at the top of the add-in pane to open its options dialog. For Business Central online, the Server URL is: https://exceladdinprovider.smb.dynamics.com. You shouldn't need your own tenant URL unless you're on-premises.

    4. Privacy/connected experiences setting: If you get a blank pane along with an "add-in error" about a required service being off, go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Privacy Settings, and enable "Turn on optional connected experiences." Restart Excel after.

    5. Try a clean profile test: If none of that works, try Edit in Excel from a different machine/profile to see if it's local to your Excel install vs. something on the BC side.

Let me know which step gets you unstuck!

You may want to fully uninstall the add-in from your excel and then reinstall it. If its your first time using it you may need a global admin who can login and authenticate.

Try the web version to see if the issue persists. If not, the problem lies with your local Excel installation.

    Hello,

If you are using Business Central Online, you do not need to find your individual BC server address. Microsoft specifies the Excel add-in Server URL as https://exceladdinprovider.smb.dynamics.com. In the Microsoft Dynamics Office Add-In pane, try Options → Add server information, enter this URL, reload the add-in, and sign in again. Since your Options pane is currently blank/black, I would also test Edit in Excel from another BC page or open the workbook in Excel for the web; if the problem remains, remove/reinstall the Microsoft Dynamics Office Add-In from Excel (Home → Add-ins → More Add-ins) and retry. This looks more like an Excel add-in/loading issue than a Business Central data issue.

I feel like i have tried almost everything, nothing works.

When i go to edit in excel, the pane comes up blank, i have to click “add ins” to start the add in, the add in does not automatically open, the i have to add server information.

Once i add the server information, then i have to sign in.

So i sign in, then the only options in the pane is “design”

i am a lost… i have spent about 8 hours on google, Microsoft, this community, dynamics.

    I appreciate everyone's suggestions.

Hi, ion cloud the Server URL  is https://exceladdinprovider.smb.dynamics.com.  On-prem it's just your web client address with the instance on the end, like https://yourserver/BC240. You get to that field from the cogwheel at the top of the Dynamics pane, or Add server information if the pane offers it.

The blank pane is probably a separate thing though. Usually it's the Office add-in cache going bad after an Office update. Close Excel, empty what's inside %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Wef, open it again and do Edit in Excel fresh from BC. Worked for us couple of times, not always.

Glad to help - follow up if anything is unclear.

►  If this solved it, marking it verified helps others too.
