CRM 2016 8.1 Outlook Client - Shared Calendars Issue - Resolution Found

For years my customers were using Shared Calendars and the Set Regarding capability to Track appointments into Dynamics CRM on other user's calendars.

This was useful in a delegate type role, like an assistant was to Track in all Appointments on an Adviser's behalf.

This capability is not well documented (despite being a supported feature by Microsoft).

Suddenly close to the release of CRM 8.0 or 8.1 we started having lots of issues with this.

When USER A would open a shared calendar of USER B and open an appointment the Set Regarding button would not appear.

We found a fix for this new issue and since have verified it works well if you are having a problem with some users.

For USER A, we need to untick the "Download shared folders" tickbox in their primary mailbox Cached Exchange Mode Settings:

    • We've always recommended Use Cached Exchange Mode is enabled

    • Select More Settings...
    • Select the Advanced Tab
    • Uncheck Download shared folders option

    • Apply changes, close Outlook and Restart

Hope this may be useful for someone out there, as it was a lucky find after 6 months of troubleshooting with Microsoft support etc.

    Cheers
