Hi asism,
I know your question is directed towards the community members based on their experience and not directly to Microsoft (for obvious reasons). Nevertheless, I would like to keep that thread alive tough and hopefully get more perspectives from other community members, therefore I provide my opinion as below (I fee like a community m).
Before joining Microsoft, I worked for a Microsoft Partner as a Technical Consultant / Solution Architect. What I always felt was right is to address the requirements and needs of our customers based one a holistic view, taking into consideration the digital transformation journey the customer is aiming for and to ensure growth and scalability of the systems the customers choose to accompany them.
In regards to this holistic view and the scalability perspective, leveraging other technologies natively supported (Azure IaaS, PaaS, SaaS & Office 365) to the Field Service solution requirements often made the choice easy for me and the customers.
Of course, every company has own requirements, needs and technical tendencies, which all are important factors in that decision. Additionally, D365 Field Service competitors are out there providing solutions as well, which might be more suitable in some scenarios.
After joining Microsoft, I got strongly involved in D365 Mixed Reality Apps and I want to use that opportunity to mention integrations with Field Service, as below:
docs.microsoft.com/.../troubleshoot-field-service
docs.microsoft.com/.../field-service
My point here is that integration into and leveraging new technologies (e.g. AI, Virtual/Mixed Reality) is a priority for Microsoft and can be also a priority for companies considering to bet on new technologies to stay competitive in the ever evolving markets and end customer needs.
I hope you accept my attempts to encourage traffic on that thread, being a former MS Partner Tech and current MS Support Engineer, providing an objective opinion :). I would be interested in your thoughts and the thoughts from the other community members.
Cheers!
