Dear Experts,
I am Dynamics 365 CRM developer and have developed many applications in Dynamics CRM. Now our company is planning to develop a finance module for all company's financial activities/transactions for which we think Dynamics F&O could be the suitable option. I am new to Dynamics 365 Finance and Operation module and don't know how to customize and configure the product as per the requirement.
Could you please help me with some development documents or any reference which can help me in development?
I want to know the capabilities that system administrator can perform.
Thanks in advance.
Jay
Hi Jay,
Please have a look at the official documents: docs.microsoft.com/.../system-administration-home-page
It's also highly advisable to seek training or mentoring - learning D365FO development (and application lifecycle management) alone from scratch is a big challenge since the product is so complex. It's also essential to have good knowledge of the standard functionalities, so that you know how to extend them in a good way (if the standard functionalities are not enough for your requirements). For the functional part the knowledge can come from someone else, but also on that area it's challenging to start from scratch without support from more experienced people.
Hi Jayesh,
To know product from functionality point of view on finance modules, please start with study material for MB310 . Here is the link for the same:

Hello Jay,
Why do you think that the development of a finance module is necessary?
If you already use CRM then you can establish for example a dual write connection to D365F&O where the accounting takes place.
I don't see the necessity to developing something new.
Can you probably explain a bit more on this requirement?
Many thanks,
Ludwig
Thank you all for your valuable suggestions.
Ludwig,
Our intention is not to develop a completely new module. Instead we want to use existing features of D365F&O. However, we need to understand D365F&O from developer's point of view.
Also could you please explain what is a dual write connection to D365F&O?
Have a look at the documentation for dual write: docs.microsoft.com/.../dual-write-link-common-data-service-apps
It would be first recommended to have a look from the functional and process side. Then you might find gaps or not. In the case there is a gap which cannot be fulfilled with ISV solutions, then only it would be necessary to understand it from a developer point of view.
