Power Apps using Business Central Custom Connector - License Requirements

Posted on by 3,962

Hello All,

I have created a managed solution with a canvas App, custom connector to Business Central and flows. The custom connector uses standard and custom tables from Business Central.

As per the Power Apps Licensing Guide it seems, the users will not require power apps license if they have Essential or Premium License of Business Central as shown below

D365APPS_0-1611035754125.png

1>Is Power Apps License also required to access this Canvas App if the users have Business Central Essential or Premium License.

2>It states that "For Business Central the Dynamics 365 environment is defined as an environment that includes one or more     Power Apps that Integrate with Business Central".

Does the Business Central License support Apps in multiple environments or how does Power Apps determine which  environment to use the Business Central License for if there are multiple environments with Business Central Apps.

3>Is there any naming convention to create this environment or setup so that it uses the business Central user license and not ask for Power Apps License.

Thank you

Thank you NeerajNaimbi for the Response.

    Regarding the Point 1,

Yes, users will be assigned the appropriate Business Central License to access BC Data.

Can you confirm if you said both Power Apps License and Business Central License are required for a user or if they can use the App with just Business Central License Use Rights.

I have tried to check this by just assigning the Business Central Trial License to the user and No Power Apps License , but received the error "This app uses features that come with a Power Apps premium plan. Start a trial to use these features."

    Hi,

If I have understood your scenario correctly, then you are accessing the Business Central (Tables) using the web services in the custom connector. The canvas app is going to be added into 1 of Dataverse(CDS) environment.

Let me try to answer from my understanding. See if it helps.

1>Is Power Apps License also required to access this Canvas App if the users have Business Central Essential or Premium License.

[NB]: To access the canvas app (added into the CDS environment), apart from dedicated PowerApps license, users can access through a seeded license which you can get from either Office 365, Dynamics 365, or BC license. I am sure you would have considered users access on the underlying data from BC.

[NB]: Since you are just using the web services to connect to the BC, therefore PowerApps does not need to determine which BC environment (DEV, UAT, PROD) you are talking to as long as you are maintaining the configuration of multiple BC environments in your PowerApp.

3>Is there any naming convention to create this environment or setup so that it uses the business Central user license and not ask for Power Apps License.

[NB]: The seeded user license applies across the tenant and not specific to an environment. It is only the PowerApps per app license that applies to an environment.

    Hope it helps.
