cannot connect to microsoft dynamics crm server because we cannot authenticate your credentials

I am setting up IFD on a server with multiple tenants.

This works via IE and forms based login and can get into CRM with no problem.

The site uses a wildcard cert, not using https is *not* an option.

Installing the CRM for Outlook client (using "online service provider" option) will install.

Entering the URL (with https) works and I am prompted for login and password (CRM for Outlook)

I *immediately* get a "cannot connect to microsoft dynamics crm server because we cannot authenticate your credentials" message.

Anyone run into this and have any suggestions?

I have compared this IFD to other working IFD sites (both with certificates and not) and can't seem to locate a difference.

Thanks in advance.

Nick

    Hi Nick,

If you are NOT using ssl, but sure you are always using http and not https.   Use http in both the ifdconfig and when using the outlook crm client.

However, we highly recommend purchasing an ssl cert as without it your authentication and data will be going via the Internet plaintext.

Sorry, I should have been more clear, we are definitely using SSL and must continue to do so for security reasons.  I only mentioned it because there is a similar posting on the web where the solution was not to use https... which IMHO is a workaround, not a solution.

To update we think we have it isolated to a firewall setting, but any other ideas are certainly welcome!

    Cheers

From the Internet, can you browse to https:// yoruCRMurl and get the forms based authentication?

Yup.  IE forms based works fine.  Just CRM for Outlook.  Ran configuration wizard, choose "Online Service provider" put in the URL (with https) got the CRM for Outlook login prompt, put in the exact same login and password, hit OK and got the error message.  I am using the client with rollup 7 built in as well.  Tried different user accounts and even different organizations (this is enterprise edition and I have a couple orgs setup)

Nick, earlier we too faced the same situation, the reason being i as a developer earlier configured the outlook client for one organization and later tried to configure the asame for another organization and experienced the same issue, if this is the case with you too the solution i found was 1. uninstall/remove the current configuration using configuration wizard. 2. install it again for the required organization if you fond errors in uninstalling you can refer http://blog.customereffective.com/blog/2008/02/complete-crm-ou.html hope this will work for you. cheers. _vishal

Hi Vishal and future solution seekers...

Thanks for your input but our situation was happening on different workstations and was not specific to one workstation.

I wanted to update the thread to indicate that we ended up replacing the firewall (was going to happen anyway) and that seemed to resolve the particular issue.

So if anyone happens to read this in the future I would suggest taking a look at firewall settings to find the culprit.

    Cheers

I'm having the same issue hitting a dynamics.com site going through an ISA server. I can connect to the website fine using a browser. Very frustrating. It's a fresh install, no other copies, and it just doesn't like the credentials even though they work on the site fine. What other ports besides 443 need to be open? I think none as my ISA server isn't showing blocked attempts.

    Frustrating to say the least.

I got this working, for anyone else who gets this - it was an Essentials Repair that did it.
