Benefit to use GIT

Hello everyone,

What are the advantage to use GIT for F&O projects?
I know it seems more and more people to use GIT, but I don't understand the benefit to use GIT.
It seems a bit learning curve for everyone.

Thanks,

Points 1 and 2 apply to TFVC as well. It allows tracking of changes and it does support branches. It doesn't have pull requests, but code reviews and discussions can be done on shelvesets (PRs are better, though).

Hi, using Git for F&O (Finance and Operations) projects offers several advantages:
1.Git allows you to track changes to your codebase over time.
2.With Git, each developer can work on their own branch, enabling simultaneous development. This allows for faster releases and easier management of stable code.
3.Git supports pull requests, which facilitate code review and discussions before merging changes into the main branch.
Please start with the following MS document to use GIT:

There are a few point of views. For example:
    1. There are obviously differences in features and usage. Most importantly (IMHO), Git is designed for branches, which are much easier to use than in TFVC.
    2. There is no investment to TFVC anymore.
    3. There are better tools for Git (especially because they're still actively developed). For example, the workflow for code reviews based on pull requests is much better than code reviews based on shelvesets in TFVC.
    4. You may have other, non-F&O development (such as in Azure or Power Platform) and there is a good chance it uses Git (e.g. because of Git integration to Power Platform). If you want to utilize a single source control system, Git is a better option than TFVC.
    5. The bad thing is most F&O developers aren't familiar with Git and the learning curve is quite steep. An the other hand, there are many people outside the F&O silo that can help you with that, because Git is used massively for almost anything else.
