Embedding Power BI in D365, What Should the Data Source Type be for The Power BI Report?

ReportReport

Greetings dears,

I want to create a Power BI report that will be embedded in D365.

I need the report to be embedded in a Deployable package, so once the Ax model is deployed, the Power BI report should be available in D365.

But I'm confused on how to build the Power BI report data sources..

I usually develop Power BI reports using OData and I set the refresh schedule on PowerBI.com .

But if I want the report to be embedded in D365, what should the data sources type be? How it will get refreshed?

My question is regarding how to get the data from D365 into Power BI if I want to embed the report and it will get refreshed?

Any advice is appreciated !

Thanks in advance !

    hi,

I think you would need DW cube to be developed and publish as entity store Sys admin > setup > entity store

    Hi Sauabh,

    Thanks for the reply.

Oh, but I'm sorry I have no background on cubes...can you provide me with some links?

    Hello Momochi,

    Please, find the Microsoft documentation.

    Hi Komi,

Thanks for your reply and the link.

The link mentions that I have to create a power bi report that is sourced from Entity store.

I'm confused how to connect to Entity store from power bi? is it ok through Odata or it should be through SQL server?

    Hi  Komi,

In the link you posted it says that one of the pre-requisites is:

"An analytical report (.pbix file) that was created by using Microsoft Power BI Desktop, and that has a data model that is sourced from the Entity store database."

So the source is data store...

I'm actually not familiar with data store and after reading a little bit, it turns out that it's the AxDW in SQL Server... which is updated using batch jobs in D365.

So in AxDW, there are only cubes I see?

Then as per saurabh bharti  said that I need to develop a DW Cube?

I'm not seeing any useful tables in  AxDW.

When I develop Power BI using OData Feed, there are lots of useful out of the box data entities which makes creating reports easier and faster.

But here it seems I have to create a cube for anything I need to display in the report?
