Counting Inventory with handheld scanner

Posted on by 80

We are thinking about gettinjg a scanner to count our inventory and then input the counts into our

RMS inventory.  Any advice would be appreciated.  We are considering a low end scanner (Opticon OPN2001)

  • RE: Counting Inventory with handheld scanner

Memory scanners, like the Opticon OPN2001, are as good/practical as their ability to consolidate the counted data to a file that RMS can consume. If you have multiple units this could be a sizable task.

Most of our customers use handheld devices, running Windows Mobile, to perform inventory counts (cycle counts as well as full wall-to-wall). Multiple handhelds can be used in concert and all the count data from all devices will be consolidated and posted to RMS either directly (over Wi-Fi) or via sync (cradled device). This is more efficient - depending on the size of store and items to count - than a laptop with a scanner which does not support multiple simultaneous users on the same count
Please let me know if you have any questions and if you need a demo/pricing info etc. Thanks

Not sure if this is a question or error, but we suggest to our clients they buy a 8" or 10" Windows tablet, install RMS on it and buy a cheap Bluetooth scanner.

Open Manager and do your Physical Inventory, assuming you have WiFi in the store.

Total cost $200 + depending on how fancy you want to get.

    Hi guys,

We have old software that will run on the old Windows Mobile devices and we have new software that runs on Android and iOS. Both have very sophisticated inventory counting modules, the new version being a bit more feature rich. Let me know if you have any questions.

We have deployed the following scanner with great end user satisfaction.  www.intermec.com/.../ck3r-pp-web.pdf

Outside of being a great piece of hardware this handheld also includes RITE Scan software.  With it you can preform physical inventory counts, create purchase orders / inventory transfers, scan products to get sales history, line bust (create POS transactions on hold that can be recalled by a cashier), create new items, change prices, and more!

    Hope that helps

We are currently using a PSC PT2000 Top gun for inventory and it has served us well. However it is no

longer in production so we will be looking for a replacement and the Opticon seems like a good alternative.
