Report not printing

Posted on by 1,270

Hi

I have a scenario where on attempting to print preview a report, the only thing that comes up on screen is the message "please wait while the document is processing".   I kept it running for a while but the report does not appear.

The same report printed yesterday without a problem so I am now sure what is causing this problem today.

I cleared the Rptextra table but that did not help.

Has anyone experienced this before?   Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Thanks

No problem, but thanks for your input.

I will continue to monitor the issue to see whether it do appear again.

Lisa, based on your statement that they are working better today, it does not sound like a lost index issue because indexes are not just rebuilt on the fly.  I cannot really offer an explanation as to why you had the issue and now it has gone away.  sorry.

    RE: Report not printing

    Hi Rick

They are all crystal reports.  On print previewing the reports they were taking very long to show on the screen but eventually they do appear.

However, a strange thing happened today, the same reports that were taking long to load, now they are loading quickly.  So the problem seems to have fixed itself.

The reports that were giving problems were the standard vendor trial balance report and the customized report that was built from the vendor trial balance report.

Do you know what may have gone wrong but apparently fixed itself?  If it was due to an index problem, how could I check or make sure that this does not occur again?

    Thanks for your input.

    Regards

    RE: Report not printing

Lisa, my main reason for asking was whether the report was a Crystal Report or an SSRS report.  From you most recent response, it sounds like, maybe, the report eventually runs but takes a long time.  It also sounds like it may just be a couple of reports.  In order to be of more help, if I can, I need to know which report or reports are doing this.  It could be that you lost an index on a table or the customization to the report cannot find an appropriate index to use to efficiently gather the data.  You also indicated these reports are customized.  If you run the non-customized report, does it run faster?

    RE: Report not printing

    Hi Rick

I am using Dynamics SL 2015 CU1.  There are a couple of reports that are loading slower than usual.  The two that I checked are customized reports and the other one is a standard report.  Those same reports were not taking that long to load before now and as far as I am aware no changes were made.

I opened the crystal reports and I chose the "no printer" option but that did not help.

Lisa, Just one report or most any report?  Which version of Dynamics SL?
