What SP level?   Any type of error when trying to launch?  Are you logged in/launching as administrator?

Did you install as an administrator on this server? Have you first run GP Utilities? Was this a fresh install or an upgrade? When you say it fails to launch, do you get any error messages or simply no response?  When in doubt always reboot first then try again.

    @Richard and Dan,

Thanks for your response. The Service pack is Service pack two. I intalled as an administrator and i logged in as administrator. Even when lauching the utility it doesn't run en no error message. I actually restarted after the installation so i dont know what the problem is. Kindly help me check it out.

    Thank you and God bless.

Is this server a domain controller? Are you perhaps running Symantec Endpoint Protection? If so, turn it off and try again.

    Thanks.

Yes the server is the domain controller and now its happening on one of the client system.

Thank you for your quick response.

First, turn off all anti-virus software. Fire up Task Manager and then try to fire up GP 2010. Do you see DYNAMICS.EXE fire up and then disappear? I saw this once before and never did find an answer. Something was stoppping DYNAMICS.EXE from completing.

    Hi FUNMILAYO,

Richard has some good hints regarding the anti-virus... Usualy you don't put a GP application server on the same system role as the Domain controller, but the choice may have been done due to limited HW resources.

You say it's happening on one client too... what's the client's OS version ? on your server, do you execute the Dynamics GP client in 'Administrator' mode too ? i.e is the user that launches the apps defined as a local Admin (in this case since it's a 2003 server). Is your 2003 server built in 32- or 64-bits mode ? Which version of SQL server do you installed for GP ?

You didn't replied to the question if this was a maiden installation of GP2010 or an upgrade from a previous version ... ?

    Thanks for providing more details.

    @ Beat,

Thanks for your reply. The server 2003 is built on 32 bit mode and the SQL  is 2005. Also the It is an upgrade from GP 10.0 to GP 2010. I did execute the installation on the client in Administrator mode. The client OS is Windows XP SP2.

    Thanks you and stay blessed

    Uhmmm,

Although Microsoft doesn't say you can't do the upgrade from a windows XP client connected to the server, I've actually never ecounterd this way of doing it. Multiple reasons to this, but primarely you want to have your GP Client installed where the Database are hosted, because of the proximity. The Dynamics Utility upgrade process can take quite a wile, specially if you have multiple companies (in our case about 30-40 min. per company). If anything happens during the process with your network connexion from the Windows XP client, than you may face a corrupted upgrade and have to redo it from scratch (restore last good backup before upgrade process started). I had  to do this once, and believe me, it's not funny. Also your server has usually much more power in terms of CPU and RAM than a traditionnal Win XP workstation.

Finally, my last grip goes towards your version of WinXP SP2... Microsoft requirement for the GP 2010 upgrade on the client side are at least to be with SP3 :

    mbs.microsoft.com/.../mdgp2010_system_requirements.htm Requirements

That may explain your troubles... Good luck.
