Batch Job Processing

Hi. I am implementing DAX 2009 and have a need to schedule batch jobs across 20+ companies. I also need to have 1 view of all the jobs with statuses etc etc. Does anyone know of a good value for money product that will allow me to set them up and monitor with ease?

Thanks

 Paul

     Hi Paul,

    To view all batch jobs:

1 -  Click Basic > Inquiries > Batch Job list.
2 -  Select from items in the Show status list to filter the batch jobs listed according to their status.

     Regards,

    Abdallah

Bur surely this will only apply to the company that you are logged into and not all 20 companies?

I beleive it will do the job.

    Hi Abdallah

I do believe that it will work BUT man it is clunky. We may have to write our own in-house apps to schedule and keep track of jobs.

    Thanks

    Hi Paul,

Dollar Universe is a good external product to schedule and monitor batch jobs.. i would recommend it.. (not sure if they have a version that supports ax 09 though)

its just a shame that batch jobs are still cumbersome and hard to use ..... i thought ms did a lot of good things to the batch framework in ax09 .... but from your comments i get a feeling that it still isn't good enough..

well i hope this was of use to you.

    Hi, man

I beleive you can't see batch jobs in respect of all DAX companies. Just take a look at SaveDataPerCompany property for Batch table - it set to Yes

If you have not set up virtual company account and included Batch and related tables into it :)

Otherwise only data from one company is shown there.

    Hi, Paul

There are 2 ways how to resolve your issue:

    1. Setup: if you need only to monitor job statuses - it can be reasonable to setup virtual company and include Batch and related tables into it. But you wont be able to see what job from what company is it.

    2. Code changes: it's not hard to implement the same form as standart Batch list, but with one temporary table that will collect ALL batch jobs from ALL companies. It's possible in DAX to change company from the code (using changecompany()). And with that it can be easy to run (or re-run, or create)  job only in its company. I beleive it's the easiest way to implement such changes using your devs resources (or outsorcing for one freelancer) rather that looking some expencive extention products.
