Dynamics 365 portal installation

Hi All,

We have 3 portal licenses but 5 environments (Dev/ Test / SIT / Staging / UAT), now as we want to start Data migration in Staging environment , we have to install CRM customization solution but it doesnt import as it has dependency on portal solutions.

So my question is:

Can we install portal solutions without creating an actual portal, we dont need portal instance for staging environment.

Or can we reuse Dev instance in staging and after installation, reuse the same instance in Dev? Would it create any issues or just remove portal master data which we would have to reinstall?

    Hi

I think you have a few options to get around this.

    01. You could copy your Dev Instance to your staging (this will wipe the Staging). This way you will all the Portal solution components installed on Dev is also on staging. You can do full copy (copies everything including data) or you can just do a minimal copy (only copies customizations, users, and settings not the data)

    docs.microsoft.com/.../copy-instance

    02. If the above is not suitable for you, you could install the solution from the solutions tab but not do the portal configuration, please see the link below

    Hi,

Within the Portal admin, you can do Switch Dynamics 365 Instance for your dev portal. Doing this will install the portal solutions in your staging environment. Once done, switch the dev portal instance back to dev oeganization.

    Hope this helps.

Ideally you should not add any components which are related to portals in your customizations solution which will avoid the dependency hence you don't need to do anything.

    Hope this helps.
