Hi All,

Does anybody know how to import data into an custom entity using dynamics 365 portal..

I have checked few questions around which says its not OOTB available.

Which way has worked anyone, please can help me in this.

Eg.. if i have my own "contacts" entity , i want to import data into it from portal by uploading a csv..

Any suggestion is welcome.

Kind Regards,

Ashay

OOB this is not possible. And if you want te develop it, you need to do clientside csv processing and posting that data to the portal. It might be possible, but probably isn't easy.

I don't think this is what the OOB portal is meant to do.

    Hi Ashay,

You can upload your .csv or .excel file in Notes by using 'Attach File' feature of Entity Form.

Expose your custom entity form along with Attach File option on portal and let user upload the excel or csv file from that form. You can use the CRM OOB Data Import Template for the same.

Can refer below link to enable 'Attach File' option in portal:

    https://nishantrana.me/2017/02/15/add-attach-file-additional-settings-in-entity-form-in-portal-in-dynamics-365/

After uploading the file as a Note attachment from Portal, you can write a async plugin/custom workflow on create of Note entity and can create the records in CRM by reading/parsing the attached file content

Can refer below link for parsing the excel file:

    http://csharp.net-informations.com/excel/csharp-read-excel.htm

Mark it verified, If it helps.

    Cheers

    Hi Arpit,

Thank you for your reply. I went through those links.. while doing R&D, I came across Kingwaysoft tool, with which we can create SSIS package which makes life easy.

So my highlevel plan is like , upload excel as an attachment to an staging entity, then trigger workflow which would execute SSIS package. This may do my work. Couple of bottle neck identified are , how am I going to find the excel source on "Record Create" event for the attachment of that staging entity and pass GUID to SSIS.

Would like to know your insights on this.

    Kind Regards,

    Ashay
