Renewing Entitlement Before Expiring

Hello Experts!

I am trying to migrate data from the Contract entity to the Entitlement entity, but I got challenge on renewing. The Contract entity allows us to renew a contract before a current contract expires, so sales people can prepare renewed contracts beforehand for smooth transition. On the other hand, the Entitlement entity does not allow us to renew an entitlement before a current entitlement expires.  If I try to renew, Dynamics CRM throws the error, "You can renew only the entitlements that are expired or canceled."

This is going to be a huge problem for sales people--they have to closely monitor entitlements expiring today and rush to renew them immediately.  As a possible workaround, they can modify End Date field of the Entitlement to yesterday before renewing, but is very bad record keeping practice.

Are there any parameters that I can disable such restriction, or can I write plugin to allow users to renew entitlements before they expires?

Thank you in advance for your help!!

    Hi,

As per the message, the renew functionality is only for expired or cancelled entitlement. This is the current application behavior so you cannot use this. You can replicate the same renew functionality on your own by creating an ondemand workflow & custom code which creates the copy of the current default entitlement. This way users can create entitlement before expiration.

You can also add this as an idea so that Ms can look forward to change this behavior in future. https://ideas.dynamics.com/

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply.  So, Dynamics CRM has no configuration option to disable the error message?

Sorry to post on this thread but we have a doubt about the right process:

    - should we renew an entitlement (after it expires)

    - or should we create a new one?
