Can we create a 2 sub-companies under one company in GP ?
Actually i need to limit access to customers, sales orders, invoices, etc. based on users' branch. For example a user from branch X can only see data for branch X.
In addition, if a user in branch X creates a new customer or order, it should be automatically tagged with the branch.

Leslie, Binary Stream's MEM provides record-level security.  Not sure if your post was implying that it didn't.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Many people do combine multiple companies in a single database and differentiate between them with a segment in the account number. However, if you require separate entity-based reporting such as 1099s and Payroll (absent a common paymaster) it doesn't work so well. In addition, you could not restrict access between the two companies. As Frank mentioned, the only clean way to accomplish a company combo is with Binary Stream's software.

You brought up another point that is problematic regardless of what software you use. It sounds like you are wanting record-level security by branch. Dynamics GP does not have record-level security such as you described. The only record-level security native to GP is account-level security and that will not accomplish what you want.

If you just want to filter data, rather than restrict it, GP can handle that with aplomb. Even with the filter however, the users could still see all records if they wanted to.

There might be a 3rd-party product out there somewhere, but I have not heard of one. Someone may suggest a 'customization' (custom programming) to accomplish your  objective. I believe something like that would be a huge effort (read expensive) because it would need to touch so many areas of the software.

    Kind regards

    Leslie

You can do this with Binary Stream's Multi Entity Management.  Otherwise you would need to create two separate company databases in GP and consolidate them on your financial statements.
