I will repeat the answer I provided in person:

It is impossible to give very specific to your questions without knowing more details about the particular requirements in this case,

Not having that additional information, I can only give you some more general responses:

    1. If your different companies use a different fiscal calendar (=their fiscal year start in different months) then it is impossible to have them all use a single calendar - since the fiscal year start/end is part of the calendar definition.

    2. You must have fiscal years defined for any time for which you want to upload balances.

So if in your case you want to upload balances as of 2009, you must have fiscal years defined AT LEAST all the way back to 2009.

    3. There are no restrictions on what calendar name is. You can use any name you want.

When does the fiscal year of each company need to start? how long is each fiscal year, and how many periods does it need to have?

it was not clear to me what you meant by saying that the 'fiscal year in each company is different'

Are they any particular requirements around the naming of the calendar?

What do you mean by your questions about  "name of fiscal year"? I am not aware of a feature in AX where user can set a name for fiscal year?

other than opening balances are you planning to upload any other transnational information? any transactional history planned to be uploaded? for what date range?

other than opening balances for January 2009, do you need to upload opening balances for any other year? period?

Thanks ZVIKA for your updates .

it was not clear to me what you meant by saying that the 'fiscal year in each company is different'

    Ans:

As i mentioned above fiscal year will be different , but Fiscal calendar is for all Companies are same like JAN - DEC.

    QUES :

Are they any particular requirements around the naming of the calendar?

    Ans :

No , But i would like to know whether what name should i give and do i need to create the calendar every year .

    QUES :

What do you mean by your questions about  "name of fiscal year"? I am not aware of a feature in AX where user can set a name for fiscal year?

Ans: Generally what name should i give for the Fiscal Calendar and Fiscal Year ?

    QUES :

other than opening balances are you planning to upload any other transnational information? any transactional history planned to be uploaded? for what date range?

    Ans : No.

    QUES :

other than opening balances for January 2009, do you need to upload opening balances for any other year? period?

    Ans : No

    Hi Lallly,

I read this thread and would have the same questions as Zvika.

    About the fiscal calendars:

You can use the same calendar for IND and SGP as the start of the year and the number of periods seems to be the same. The other two companies need both an own fiscal calendar.

You could consider a naming convention like

    JAN-12M

    APR-12M

Then you can see the start of the fiscal year and how the periods are setup (12 months). But the naming is only for your own internal references.

When e,g, SGP will need another fical calendar in future, you can create a new one containing the same periods as in the past, but starting from a certain date you can have e.g. a new start of the fiscal year or perhaps 13 periods. It is possible to change the fiscal calendar on the form Ledger when needed.

The fiscal calendar can contain all fiscal years. You can indeed start with 2009 and create perhaps new year in advance e.g. until 2018. That is up to you.

You mentioned you have opening balances from 2009. Can you indicate if these opening balances are related to customer and/or vendor transactions? What kind of transactions are these? You can also have a cumulative balance for your transactions e.g. on 31 Dec 2013 when you start using the system from 01 Jan 2014. (the date before go live).

Then you don't need to have all details on the date they were created in the past. for open customer transactions, you can specify the original invoice date in the field 'Document date' and you can also specify the due date.

Thank you Andre for your help.

I need to create the Fiscal calendar & Fiscal year in AX 2012 as mentioned below for the IND and SGP companies.

    Fiscal Calendar                                      Fiscal Year

    JAN - DEC 2009                                     APR 08 - DEC 2009

    JAN - DEC 2010                                     APR 09 - DEC 2010

    JAN - DEC 2011                                     APR 10 - DEC 2011

    JAN - DEC 2012                                     APR 11 - DEC 2012

    JAN - DEC 2013                                     APR 12 - DEC 2013

I think the above mentioned is not possible in AX 2012.

AX does not support the creation of Fiscal Calendar as mentioned above , it only allows to create the Fiscal Year.

Only One Fiscal Calendar can be created Like JAN - DEC and under this i can create the Fiscal Years as mentioned above.

Then what is the Point of Fiscal Calendar functionality ?

Why can not create the Fiscal Calendars and years as mentioned above?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Lally,

The fiscal calendar is a setup of grouping fiscal years in AX2012. You can attach a fiscal calendar to your ledger. You can also use when needed another fiscal calendar (other period definitions) for e.g. your fixed assets. So indeed what you are thinking is not possible.

You can read about the fiscal calendard en fiscal years here: technet.microsoft.com/.../hh242909.aspx

You can eventually give the fiscal year the name of the fiscal calendar as stated in your last reply. Then it is only a description of the year. There is no calendar logic on this name field.

    Hi Andre ,

Thank you for the confirmation that there is no fiscal calendar functionality is available as per my expectations.

In Axapta , Just we have the Fiscal year functionality only , no Fiscal Calendar functionality as explained above.
