Has anyone converted from using the free MSDN version of Dynamics GP to the purchase of the actual software? How did you manage the convertion-restore from back up of free version to new version? Were details populated or did you have to do that manually (Such as projects, contracts, inventory counts, customers, vendors, etc)? Did the ledger come over in conjuction with the details or did that come seperately so the financial reports would be acurate but you could not drill down from a document to that ledger? Thanks.

I have the same question (0)Hello Lorraine,
To convert from the trial editon to the full edition requires switching out the Dynamics GP code and entry of Registration Keys within Dynamics GP. The recommendation is to - 1. Create SQL backup of the DYNAMICS and company databases, 2. Uninstall the trial editon of GP, 3. Install the full edition of GP, and then 4. Launch into GP to enter the registration keys. Note - If there is a feature difference and version difference where you are updating the install at the same time with the latest service pack, Dynamics GP Utilties will need to run to convert the databases as well appropraitely to match the code. Using the above steps, you are switching out the GP application files only where all data records in the databases remain in place.
If you are moving to new production environment, backup then restore the SQL databases for Dynamics GP is acceptable. You then simply install the full edition with desired features and service pack build to run Dynamics GP Utilities to update the databases. Entry of Registration Keys follow once able to access Dynamics GP.
