Payroll Employee T4 - Canada screen's EI Insurable Earnings are not capping at the maximum

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Our "Payroll Employee T4 - Canada" screen's EI Deducted is correct however the EI Insurable Earnings are not capping  at the 2012 maximum of $45,900.  Is there a system setting or procedure to correct?

    Hi Steve,

Forget what I replied yesterday... I'm not a payroll expert, but I asked our Payroll Master today and he explained that the EI max deduction is managed by the Canadian Payroll module in GP.. However, when an employee is assigned to more than one Employer Code in GP, the system doesn't automagically cumulate both deductions, as the employee has 2 records in the T4 summary table, thus considered as 2 different entities..

To avoid this, you can entere the sum of the deducted amounts so far into a field called 'Previous Employer EI' deduction... that way GP will consider the paid amounts YTD.

    Hope this helps to clarify.

    Hi Steve,

Have you setup a deduction paycode for the EI ? you then need to set a max deductible per Month / Year  in the paycodes setup:

Microsoft Dynamics GP menu >> Tools >> Setup >> Payroll - Canada >> Deduction Paycodes >> Amounts
