Rename/relabel "Vendors" to "Suppliers"

Hey guys,

I have never, in my personal experience, used the word "Vendors" to describe my Suppliers and I'd like to change it in my NAV 2016.

Is it possible please to change the label for Vendors to Suppliers? It could be quite a serious backend change but I'm hoping there's a label column in the Vendors table (or similar) that makes it easy to change from Vendors to Suppliers ... or whatever else I may like to refer to them as!

Thanks.

    Hi,

You can change the 'caption' of the field without changing its 'name'

I think its better to use "save view as" option instead of change the header of the tables

You can change caption of fields in vendor table as there is caption property in fields

This could be tedious activity to change

Not what you want to hear, but I would suggest to live with it. As Amol says, this is a tedious task. Better call it a project, as there are many other tables that refer to this by fields like Vendor No., like on the Vendor Ledger Entries or purchase documents.

And you know, when you are going to upgrade to a next version this has to be redone again. Sure you can automate a lot on this, but still ... it's basically a code change.

So, just live with it is my advice. We all change our vocabulary overtime somehow.

Hi, as Luc mensioned - try to live with it. I don't think that this is the last task with NAV you have, and if your vendors will be called suppliers than you will say: "Wow, now i have perfect NAV system" :)

Push your energy to make your users more happy by automizing as much as possible in your NAV. Cheers!

It is way more trouble than you think. There are a LOT of fields called 'Vendor No' that you would otherwise also have to change captions for, not to mention pages and reports that use the word. This can easily become a huge task and cause you enormous development bills, that you could spend on real business improvements.

I would say (like everyone else in here) get used to the word, it's really a common word.

Thanks everyone for the responses, I'm disappointed to hear that it's not an easy option to give it a different label. I'd have thought that would be quite easy to have, a few tables of definable labels instead of having it hardcoded.

I've had another idea though, is it possible to change the localisation for it? I haven't tried this but I assume if you put your NAV into, say, Spanish, it doesn't say Vendors it says "Vendedores" (according to the google that's the translation!) ... so could I edit the English localisation table to change my labels?

    Thanks again.

I think again you are going in same direction for changing the caption

I would suggest it would be better ypu educate the useres and tell them it is just a name change as per global

I think again you are going in same direction for changing the caption .It will be better if you educate the users and make them understand that both are same and it is captioned as per global

Yes, it's possible to amend the English translation texts but there probably hundreds, or more likely thousands of instances of the word, "Vendor" in field labels on pages and subpages, FactBox panels, reports, error message texts, ribbons and buttons, not to mention ALL of the help text online and of course printed manuals, video guides, etc., etc.

Even with the language translation modified, any time you want to refer to those fields in NAV reports, or other external applications (Jet Reports, Microsoft Power BI, or anything else), they will almost certainly refer to the tables' and fields' real names, which you do not want to change, even if you could.

My company was in an identical position. Everyone knew them as suppliers in conversation and in the naming on our previous system.  I can assure you nobody is the least bit concerned about that now and I'm sure your users will be able to adapt just as readily.

I agree totally with Dmitry. If that is literally the only thing which is not completely perfect for you and your users in NAV then that's great: Microsoft will almost certainly want you as a case study!

If you're still determined then I suggest you talk to your NAV partner to see if they can help you.
