How to create new batches using Web Services in GP 2010?

Can someone tell me how to create new batches using Web Services in GP 2010? I see two methods GetBatchByKey and GetBatchList to get batches but nothing for creating.

I have found a workaround using eConnect. I first create a sales invoice using New Batch number and then delete the transaction immediately. This way, batch is created but not deleted. This is a kind of hack till I figure out proper methods to create batch.

You can use this econnect schema under the shared masters SMTransactionBatchType <taCreateUpdateBatchHeaderRcd> to create batches using econnect.
