Upgrade to Dynamics 365 Business Central

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Earlier this month we (Microsoft) announced that all existing Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Business edition customers would be upgraded to Dynamics 365 Business Central by the end of this month automatically.  We have now learned that we cannot make this deadline for all tenants, and that some customers will have to wait longer to be upgraded.

If you’d like to try Business Central in a test environment, ahead of your environment being upgraded, please click ‘Start Free’ on our homepage and log on with a different account (i.e. not the account you use to log on to Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Business edition). Microsoft partners can try Business Central through Docker if they’re part of the Ready to Go program or by creating a temporary demo tenant and using that to log on.

We apologize for the delay in getting your tenants upgraded to Business Central.

@Fredrik: Thanks for the heads up. Clients keep asking about the timing of the upgrade is it possible to provide a deadline for all tenants?

    Thanks in Advance!

    Hi,

Please send your tenant and subscriptions details to my email address: fhietala@microsoft.com, for an offline conversation.

This is incredibly disappointing. So "some customers will have to wait longer to be upgraded". How long, a day, a week, a month, a year?

It is very difficult to try and implement a new system when you know that it will be changing significantly. You can't probably design processes, design training or documentation materials.  An organization as large, rich and sophisticated as Microsoft should be able to forecast with some accuracy how long a task like this should take, and I'm extremely disappointed that they both could not, and provided next to no communication to customers on it. This post is the only thing at all I've seen from Microsoft on this.

We still aren't upgraded. Are you still working on these? Should we put in a trouble ticket? Can we get an ETA?

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Hi Matt,

This would be caused by an extension that has not yet been updated for Business Central. Please see the team's blog post here: community.dynamics.com/.../are-you-still-not-upgraded-dynamics-365-business-central

    Best regards,

    Joost
