How to force WHS efficient raw material picking instead of picking multiple times at same location?

Hi,

How to avoid that the raw material picking has work lines next to eachother for the same item? You see pick work is created for 01C03 for item X and then the next line is again for 01C03 and item x...same for item y.

    Hi Ulti001,

Consolidated picking has not been implemented yet on the new WHS. Can you tell if the split work was from the same BOM line? If so, there.could be setting where AX might think it cannot be picked in one go.

Hi, Consolidate picking does not work for the raw material. I guess items are from multiple production orders or routes. Most efficient would be to have them all at one pick.

    Hi Ulti001,

You marked black part of the location. Is that the same location 01C03? What does the black part say? Also, is the item batch controlled? What is the total quantity you are picking, is it available on a whole batch? We are missing quite a bit of information here.

    Regards,

RE: How to force WHS efficient raw material picking instead of picking multiple times at same location?

    Hi,

I have improved that workers need to walk a lot in the warehouse for sales, transfer picking by sorting the zones and locations. I used next for that:

    zone_2D00_pick_2D00_sorting_2D00_group_2D00_1.jpg

The work breaks cut the work in various work id's so that multiple work lists/ workers can work on the same order. We want to group on sales order so that they can collect a complete order. As we have 2 zones in our warehouse which are further away I also added them. The sort code can be used if the sorting needs to be different than what we use (sorting by location number).

    zone_2D00_pick_2D00_sorting_2D00_group_2D00_1.jpg

I hope your workers also enjoy this setup. Now my question is still: how to 'group'/ 'consolidate' that item x is not picked 10 times at various location for multiple production orders in one work list?

    raw_2D00_material_2D00_pick.jpg

You see, To pick for multiple released production orders (not batch, no idea what that is) or also for single production order with multiple routes for different parts I get next work list. You see that item x is collected three times and item y three times. This might happen by the location directive for instance not having sufficient stock, but than row 1 on location 01C04-4-01 would not be picked twice.

(I have changed to put all released production orders in one wave as the manual creation of production order waves is too slow and keeps on listing ended production orders. I will report a bug for it.)

    Any idea?

RE: How to force WHS efficient raw material picking instead of picking multiple times at same location?

If it is related to multiple orders, AX will have separate work created as consolidated picking is not supported. I assume you have looked at the cluster picking option, but that will probably not work well when the work is created to pick from multiple locations.

From your posts, I don't have an overview how exactly the complete setup on WHS is done, which items are used and how the warehouse is divided into locations. So it is really hard to tell what to do. Probably an additional printed list sorted by item would help finding all work related to single items.

Personally I would love to see good consolidated picking with use of the mobile device in AX...

RE: How to force WHS efficient raw material picking instead of picking multiple times at same location?

    hi André,

It is indead caused by work for every production order. So if I have 3 production orders with item x of quantity 30. Then 3 separate picks of 30 on the locations are created side by side. The sorting helps that the worker can pick at one location, but 3 times the 30 instead 1 time the 90 pcs.

Does the work creation start with the wave template of production (no sorting possible there) and then the location directive and then the work template?

So the wave should be smart enough to take all of them, but on production release every production order is released one by one. I guess the wave should first summarize/ sort and then run the location directive.

RE: How to force WHS efficient raw material picking instead of picking multiple times at same location?

    Hi guys,

Have we got a good solution for this please? I've got the same problem where we have to pick the same item multiple times at the same location. In my scenario, that item is being consumed in different operations in the same route. So client wanted to pick all in once for that item instead of multiple times at the same location.

    Cheers.

    Su

RE: How to force WHS efficient raw material picking instead of picking multiple times at same location?

    Hi Su Nguyen,

There is no direct setup to consolidate qty for the same item in same location to avoid multiple picks of the same item on the same location which can be annoying for workers.

However the same can be smartly handled by using cluster picking.

Cluster picking is used to consolidate multiple picking of multiple work all at the same time.

This also makes sure that the same item lines at the same locations are consolidated and shown on the mobile device after being consolidated and thats what we want.

So I made a sales order for same item with two lines with 11pcs on each line.

I released the sales order and work is created with two pick lines and this cannot be consolidated in the work.

Now if you use normal sales pick menu item worker will be show pick lines twice over the mobile device.

    8623.2.jpg

To handle this we will use cluster picking. Make sure you do not activate any positions over cluster profile as we will process one work at a time.

I login and select my work id in cluster picking and you can see pick screen is for 22 pcs.

This is a work around which can be used to handle such cases easily.

RE: How to force WHS efficient raw material picking instead of picking multiple times at same location?

    Thanks a lot Sagar,

I have tried and it worked perfectly. I'm using this for Raw material picking where we have defined consuming the same amount of Raw material in multiple operations.

I have run into another problem but still can't resolve it at a moment. Would you like to have a look? Not sure if you have experienced the below error - it says "Work Header record was not found" when I click on the work ID displayed below - It works when I explicitly go the raw material picking menu item to do the work:
