Receipts During Stock Count - is it okay?

Hoping this message reaches the appropriate folks well!

I'm new to GP and have a question as it relates to the Stock Count Entry process.

During a particular month, on the last day of the month, we create a Stock Count Schedule to be used for cycle counting.  We then count inventory which usually takes a day to complete and then a day to evaluate variances and another day to actually post the results to the Stock Count Entry.  My question is, would there be any issue if we were to process a receipt of an item in the Stock Count into inventory the following month (say the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd) while the stock count process is occurring for month end?

Let's say we have a shirt qty of 100 valued at $1.00 per shirt on 11/30, totally $100 in value.  On 12/2, our warehouse receives a shipment of 100 shirts that we purchased at $1.20 per shirt, totally $120 in value.  Are we able to receive these shirts on the delivery date and not have it affect anything in GP as it relates to the stock count entry?  Obviously, these items would be excluded from the physical inventory count and not entered into GP when we complete the Stock Count Entry as on 11/30 but would anything go wrong?

The issue we're having is our warehouse isn't sure if they can receive in any goods into the system until the stock count is complete and I'm not sure if that's the case.  As long as the date in GP is set to the appropriate date (whether 11/30 or the current date the following month) the activity should be siloed, right?

Thank you in advance!

After reviewing our findings with a colleague, we realized that GP uses the current qty rather than the qty at the date that the count started...so that's a major bummer.

To further explain, if we have 100 of an item on 11/30 and start a stock count schedule on the same day and then receive another 50 in on 12/1, if we have a variance with the 11/30 count, say 10 less than what GP says, when we enter the count of 90 into GP, the balance on 11/30 will be 140, not 90.

I tested the same thing and GP made the variance entry at the unit cost as of 11/30 ($.70) even though I received inventory in on 12/2 at $1.00 making the current cost $1.00.  I set the "GP Date" in the bottom corner to 11/30 when I booked the stock count entry.  Not sure if that made a difference or not but it seemed to work

I just tested this, it looks like it uses Current Cost (so it would use the new price in your example).  You could adjust current cost and then put it back to what it should be.  Try it in a test company.

Awesome!  So just to confirm because I just realized I didn't exactly finish my thought about receiving in new inventory the following month at a new value.  When we post the variance, let's say our 11/30 count was 90 instead of 100 - GP will post the variance of 10 shirts @ $100, right?  Not the new $120 price?  We are using FIFO, that's why I'm asking! :)

When you "Start Count' using Stock Schedules (option in the ribbon), the system captures the inventory quantity 'captured' at the time you start the count process.  When you enter stock count results, you can expand and see the quantity captured and quantity onhand.  The quantity captured value is the value that is used against the quantity you enter from the stock count.

With that being said, dates don't actually matter, it's the quantiy on hand at the time the start count button is pushed - even if some items are received in the future

... but, to answer your specific scenario, yes, you will be fine so long as the stock count was 'started'.
