Hi All ,

AX 2012 R3

The requirement is regarding the Alphanumeric number sequence .

Client wants have the number sequence format such as

Company - Constant - Alphanumaric

GE  - SO  - AAAAA111111

Assume that if the number reaches to GE  - SO  - AAAAA999999 ,then system should generate the next number sequence such as GE  - SO  - AAAAB100000....again when it reaches to AAAAB999999, then next number should be AAAAC100000....

I heard the above requirement is possible in AX ..Could any one guide me the how to setup ?

Thanks in advance

It is. Use a scope for company and format &&&&&###### for the alphanumeric ID.

You can find details in documentation: Set up number sequences [AX 2012].

    Thanks Martin

I tried this option only ,but not meeting expected results .

Assume that number sequence code is GE  - SO  - AAAAA111111 and reached last number GE  - SO  - AAAAA999999 then automatically it should update next number as GE  - SO  - AAAAB100000.

But application throws an error that number sequence is excedded when it reaches AAAAA999999.

Could i know the reason ?

Don't you have too low value in the field called "Largest"?

    Hi sri17,

What is this number sequence used for?

    Sales orders?

Trying to increase the number sequences by letters 'AAAAA', then 'AAAAB' etc. seems a bit odd because as a user I usually start searching for the sales order number first and not for constants.

Why don't you simply increase the length of the numbers rather than using a dynamic letter based sequence in front.

Who asks for this and why?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

You can setup such number sequence configuration except changing A to B when it reaches 9999999. In this case it will require to update from A to B manually in number sequence configuration or code can be written to update it
