issue with lookup field while importing data from excel

Posted on by 1,397

Hi All,

i got some weird problem since couple of weeks for one my customers production instance

We have one custom entity called Sales Transaction Line Item

This entity has one lookup field of Account entity (Field name is Customer)

Process is that my customer daily upload the transaction data using excel import feature in this entity, in excel for customer field they have Customer Number (e.g. 1234) which is unique in Accounts entity

Now when they are uploading the excel all records within that excel gets imported successfully but when we open the record in CRM, Customer name field remains blank.

Surprisingly no error during upload & no data on screen (refer below screen shot)

    Hi Manoj,

if you want to import refering to an internal attribute (like "Account Code") you need to explicit map it during import stage.

In Referred field you need to select "Account Code".

RE: issue with lookup field while importing data from excel

    Hi Francesco,

As per your suggestion now i am able to import the data from excel using lookup field but still one more field is not working

    I had 2 lookup fields

    1. Plant Name (Lookup to custom entity)

    2. Customer Name (Lookup to account entity)

After changing that display name of Plant Name which was duplicate for me, now it is working for Plant Name but it is still not working for Customer Name

Basically when i import data with customer name it works but when i import data with Unique Code of Account which is also part of quick fine view then its failing that too without error

    Any other suggestion???

    Hi Manoj ,

    you answered yourself:

you need to change the label of the attribute you dont need to import, because crm cant make a decision over two field with same label.

If your import is recursive, you should leave the new name as is, otherwise you could reverse the name to orginal (not suggested...)

Please let me know if you solve.

    Hi Francesco

You mean in excel template? No in excel template I don’t have any column with same name

In entity? Yes in entity I have 2 fields with same display name but differnet field type

Let me try changing that display name & retry it

    Hi Manoj,

    first thing to check:

Is there some fields with same Label?

    Please let me know.

    Hi Manoj,

While creating new look up field, Dynamics internally creates two more field (hidden from dynamics portal). confirm the value of hidden field sets perfectly. see image below for more information.
