Copy Production Instance to Another Production Instance

Hello All,

Is there a way to copy a production instance of CRM to another production instance?

We would like to split our current instance between two departments that are using CRM so that they each have their own instance and don't interact with each other's data.  However, we need to make sure that the new instance starts off with all of the customizations and data that is in the current instance.  Any input would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi Matthew Zavada

My name is Andres Guzman, I'm glad to help you

Maybe, you can use a Business Unit to try to separate this process or info between your users.

Now, If you need to have separate deploy and databases, the best recommendations that I can share is make a re-deploy for one of your department and create a new instance manually.

I hope this info can help you

    Regards,

You can move production instance to another production instance.. by taking database backup and restoring with different name.. and using deployment manager you can create another organization which will move all customization and data to another instance.

This is for completely new CRM system.. so both instances will have different URL's to access.

Another option is by security roles and business units.

you can create two different business units in your existing system.. and assign role to users based on there business units.. and then based on users roles and business units user can able to see data and do operations.

For this approach it might be you need to change record owners based on requirements or based on business units data so that another business unit users will not see that data.

    Hope this will help..

    Andres,

Thank you for your recommendations.   Most likely we will need more than just a separation of rights as the two departments will be using and customizing the application to their specific needs.

What do you mean when you say re-deploy?  I see we have an option to purchase another instance from our Admin portal but I saw online that they do not allow you to copy one instance to another instance.  Our copy would be a one time thing just so that we get all the data from one instance to another.

BTW, we are using CRM online.  Thanks.

As far as I know you can only copy a production instance to a sandbox instance at the moment - you might try contacting support to see if they could do it for you.
