Third Part Solution Security Considerations

We are going to integrate a clients online Dynamics CRM with a big-brand marketing tool, which involves installing a Managed Solution into the CRM system.  The client has some concerns about how secure this is, and whether there are unintentional (or intentional) data leaks in the application.

I'm planning a series of questions to ask the third party solution supplier as to what kind of testing they've carried out.

Has anyone done something like this previously?  Could you recommend any questions?

    Hi Harjit,

    There are plenty of third party managed solutions that can be installed on top of CRM that access external resources. One for example is Click Dimensions that integrates with their own external platform and provides email marketing functionality (along quite a few other features which are external to you CRM environment).

    The bottom line, is if the company that you are planning to purchase the managed solution from is a reputable company, I would probably be comfortable with it, but of course that also depends on your organization.

    The main questions that I would probably ask:

    - What data do they collect/retrieve/query from your CRM environment

    - Provide references to other customers using their product in the same industry or with the same security requirements

    - How many implementations they have done (especially in the UK and in your industry)

    Since you know your organization and industry a little better, come up with a few other questions that are related to their product/company and your organization/industry.
