Project Service Project Based Line Item Issues

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi - we are in a trial of the Project Service Automation solution and are experiencing some very annoying issues.  We've watched several YouTube videos none of which have been helpful.  So, we are attempting to create a project opportunity to convert to a project.  Using the default (unchanged) Project Information form, we arrive at the Opportunity line tab.  Where we attempt to:

  • Project-bases Lines:  It appears that we are not seeing the entire form.  As you'll see with the image below, when attempting to save what we can enter, its asking for more info (Sales Price) which we cannot enter as it is not visible... any ideas?

  • The other aggravation is with Quotes.  We cannot switch the quote form to Project Information without it automatically reverting back to the default Quote within a second or two:

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  We have another 2 weeks left with this trial but as of now this isn't functional.

RE: Project Service Project Based Line Item Issues

There are few issues with Quote and Quote Line Items forms, but the steps below fixed all of the problems

    Quote forms

    1) Copy Quote and Project Information Forms

    2) Deactivate original "managed" forms

    3) Check Order and make sure Project Information form is at the top

    4) on the Project Information form, make sure you select Quote Lines and then click Check Properties, make sure Visible by default is checked

    Quote Line forms

    1) Copy Information and Project Information forms

    2) Deactivate original "managed" forms

    3) Check Order and make sure Project Information is at the top

    4) On the Project Information form, make sure that you check properties on all three Tabs (General, General, Quote Line Details), make sure Visible by default is checked.

FYI  - The same above steps apply for Order and Order Line forms (Project Contract)

Now the default process Opportunity -> Quote in PSA should work fine.

Hi. I'm replying to this old thread on the part of the Quote as at least that is still valid in both V8.2 and V9.0. You need to make the field msdyn_ordertype visible on the form and choose "Work based" from the option set if you want to switch from normal Quote form to PSA Quote form.

Also you need to add field msdyn_contractorganizationalunitid on the form.

    Samme issue here.

There is an onLoad Event attached to the form in the standard solution of Dynamics that calls a JavaScript function.

I briefly checked the function, but after some time I went for Alex workaround.

I am having the same issue accross multiple Project Service trial instances. In fact, this type of issue seems common throughout the Project Service module.

The only way I've been able to work around these issues are to add the requested fields to the form and fill them out... even if the value doesn't apply for the Opportunity Line item I am attempting to create.

If anyone has found an answer, or a better work-around, I'd appreciate the reply.

    Thanks,

    Alex

It does not look like anyone responded to you. Did you have any luck? I am also struggling with this module. When I am in an opportunity and click to add a project-based line rather than a product based line, it takes me to the product based line entry screen. I cannot enter a project based line at all.
