Rollup Fields Referencing Calculated Fields

(0) ShareShare

I have a calculated field based on the following:

DiffInMinutes(createdon, Now())

When I create a rollup field on the parent entity this field does not appear to be selectable when I use SUM function.

According to the documentation I should be able to do this as the calculated field does not reference another calculated field.

So I was thinkin of using Power Automate as a workaround that means replicating how calculated fields work and scheduling it to run every couple of minutes ? ?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Stanley,

    Through my test, the calculated field based on DiffInMinutes() function can be selected in the rollup field.

    And for your though-- using Power Automate as a workaround that means replicating how calculated fields work and scheduling it to run every couple of minutes, which is feasible.

    You can refer following link to know more detailed steps:

    Power Automate techniques (powerappsd365.com)

    Or you can new a simple field and use flow to implement the logical function of the calculated field to the simple field, the you can use the simple field to the rollup field.

    Hi Leah,

    Have you tried my function with the createdon field  :

    DiffInMinutes(createdon, Now())

    ?

    This is currently not working for me. Seems like this person is having the same issue:

    Hi Stanley,

    Sorry, I misrepresented it.

    I did test it, the calculated field based on DiffInMinutes(createdon, Now()) function can’t be selected in the rollup field.

    So I suggest you use power automate or simple fields to solve the problem.

    Again, sorry for my carelessness!

    Hi Stanley,

    We cannot use calculated field in the rollup field for calculation.

    Yes, you can use schedule Power Automate to calculate the difference between two fields. But you will have to use normal field instead of calculated and rollup field. The reason being is if you use this field in Power Automate it will work but when the background process of rollup and calculated field is executed it will then overwrite the calculated value.

    Thanks!

    Thanks Roohi,

    Based on the documentation: “A rollup can't reference a calculated column that uses another calculated column, even if all the columns of the other calculated column are on the current table"

    DiffInMinutes(createdon, Now()) is a calculated field that DOES NOT reference a calculated column unless you count ‘createdon’  as a calculated column or Now() which I don’t think it is.

    So I think the documentation is wrong/misleading.
