Reports That Don't Update - GP2010 to GP2013 R2

Our company is upgrading from GP2010 SP4 to GP2013 R2.  In the 2013 Upgrade Instructions Guide (pp. 19-23) there is a list of Reporter Writer reports that do not upgrade.  Our users have identified several of these as key reports.  Can anyone offer information about how they addressed these 'missing' reports?

Thanks,

Joanne Herzog

    RE: Reports That Don't Update - GP2010 to GP2013 R2

In my experience, Reports that don't upgrade happen when tables and/relationships are re-written in the Dexterity code of the upgrade.  Quite often the report looks no different visibly, but the "back-end" is different.

This would usually lead to having to redo the changes starting from a freshly copied version of the report.  Unfortunately, documentation outlining the specific changes is not great (if it even exists).

I have had some success performing "surgery" on Package files.  I export a fresh unmodified report from Report Writer.  I have the modified package from the previous version.  I use NotePad++ (or similar editor that can display side by side) to have both files open.  I then overwrite parts of the old package file with parts of the new package file (sometimes it's just the tables and relationships).  If this is too overwhelming or time consuming, I use the comparison to guide me to the changes and I just repeat the modifications.

There is a judgment call over which way is faster: surgery or repeat the mods.

    Tim
