Local performance: what is happening befóre [Load Form]

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hey dear reader,
newly looking at an on premise setup of Dynamics CRM 2016 here. The most heard complaint is about poor performance on client side.

The Performance Center (you know, the ctrl-shft-q thingy) shows some decent information, but one very curious part of that is puzzeling me. As you can see in the image I enclosed, it takes the system about 1,5 (sometimes over 3) seconds before the [Load Form] actually starts.
Does anyone know what it's doing before that? Both network and database are about idle during those seconds.

Anyone an idea what we're facing here?

thanks in advance!
Jeroen

Hi Jeroen, I have narrowed it down to the Firewall / ISP being the cause of the Caching issue fro CRM , and now ruled out Group Policy or AD being the cause in our situation. However your scenario they may still be a factor but you can easily eliminate by testing when not logged into the domain. Best Wishes, Raz

    Hi Jeroen,

For future reference, he's a breakdown on the CRM Performance Center and what the major sections mean. kaskela.wordpress.com/.../understanding-the-microsoft-dynamics-crm-performance-center Check out the section "Diagnostic Messages and Associated Events".

    Thanks,

     Aiden

    Hi Raz,

it does seem as if we're facing comparable problems.

Chrome does the trick way faster than IE11 does. I have been investigating the allocated space and that doesn't seem to be the issue. How to find out if IE is allowed to save encrypted files (whilst Chrome is for sure if that'd be the problem)?

    regards,

    Jeroen

Hi Jeroen, Iv been doing some more investigation and iv noticed this particular issue does not occur when using chrome. it looks like may be something regarding IE client side or Group Policy affecting IE is preventing the caching such as  If enough Disk Space Allocated for Temporary Internet Files or If the browser is allowed to Save Encrypted Files To Disk? So Something is effecting IEs ability to cache with the network.

    Best Wishes, Raz

    Hey Raz,

we're working on a Citrix farm (age about 6 years, with appropriate hardware). Besides the onboard thingy, there's no GPU we can rely on. Concurring colleagues of us with about the same setup have GPU's installed and that did seem to make a lot of difference.

Still I don't really understand why Chrome does the job in an acceptable time window and IE can't. Plugging in brandnew GPU's might seem to solve the issue, but it won't solve the fact that rendering processes several tens of thousands style recalculations for eventually showing about 100 records.

We're talking about a third party plugin, that hasn't had this issues with another customer.

I'd be very willing to compare setups, but what kind of information will be meaningful?

Hi Jeroen, Im currently investigating something similiar on Virtualised thin client Terminals the shared processors has to render request which would normally be handled by the GPU. Maybe its worth reviewing your Hyper V / VM Ware configuration? Let me know your Setup and we can compare our results?

ooooow, this is really annoying. When loading this screen in IE11 the developer tools show that tens of thousands of style recalculations happen (évery time I load the view/screen). Could make sense, but it takes way too long in IE11... in Chrome still long, but (almost) acceptable.

Without having to change the code/scripting, is there any way in which the IE11 behaviour can be speeded up a bit?

    Hi Raz,

    thanks for getting back again!

I've checked the settings you recommend, and it seems that they all have been implemented already.

Currently busy with reproducing the real pain in a testing environment and this fortunately worked. There are still screens that take over ten minutes (!) to load.

Developer tools in IE tell me that (re)calculating styles is the main culprit.

You think that I should search in the way IE treats his caching? Chrome does exactly the same job in several seconds...

    Bit puzzled by this behaviour.

    Regards,

    Jeroen

Hi Jeroen, how are you managing so far with the performance issue?

Recommend that you do not select the option to delete the browsing history when you exit from your browser. in the Browsing history section, make sure that the Delete browsing history on exit check box is cleared.

Antivirus/Internet Security Software: create exclusion to disable script scanning on the CRM website

Turn off pop-up blocker or disable it for the CRM website

Disable third-party toolbars, such as Google or Yahoo, as these will also include pop-up blockers and script components that can interfere with CRM

Turn off unnecessary third party browser add-ons, such as the Yahoo, Bing, or Google toolbars. These toolbars include popup blockers and can also scan scripts, causing issues with CRM.

Configure Internet Explorer to download more than two files at a time  .

Increase amount of space used for temporary internet files. Click ToolsInternet Options. On general tab, click “settings” in the “Browsing History” section. Increase disk space to use to 350.

    Enable WCF Compression -> blogs.msdn.com/…/enable-wcf-compression-to-improve-crm-2013-network-performance.aspx

    Hope that helps :)

One more thing, Raz, that might be of any importance. Testing from the same Citrix server, opening the account form in IE11 takes 9911ms. Doing exactly the same in Chrome takes 2540ms (the silence moment before Load form was 3841ms versus 185ms). Chrome does pull about the same amount of CPU spiking (when all related processes combined in the calculation).

Besides advising my organization to use Chrome rather than IE, do you know any undocumented way to tweak IE?

    Utmost regards,

    Jeroen
