Moving from Dynamics Online CRM Licences to Dynamics 365 Licences

Posted on by 5

Dear Friends,

Apologies if this is not the ideal forum for the following question.

I need to understand whether an organisation that has Dynamics CRM Online licenses, which Dynamics 365 licences are appropriate? Are they able to easily move to any of the Dynamics 365 licenses or is there a particular licence path?

For instance:

Current licences = 10 Dynamics CRM Online licences

Proposed Licences = 2 Dynamics 365 Sales Professional and 8 Dynamics 365 Team Members

The environment is fairly basic and they tend to use it mainly for Sales, Leads, Opportunities, Contacts and Accounts. I hear that the Team Members licence restricts the permissions for the Account area.

So the questions are:

1) Is there a certain Licence path that has to be followed and if not does my proposed licences work?

2) Are there any major pitfalls/considerations I need to know about?

Thank you in advance for your time.

Mark.

    Hi Nya,

    Thank you for your message.

In the end I contacted Microsoft and it was a case of choosing the licences we wanted (Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise) and assigning them to the users, and then removing the old licences.

One of the concerns we had was removing additional storage we had bought under the old Tariff as you get a scary warning regarding losing data. We confirmed with Microsoft that the new storage quota we received with the new licences was large enough to cover our requirements and we would not lose the data.

    Regards,

    Mark

    Hi.
Not exactly.  Team Member licensed users for example, are not allowed to Update/Create Accounts, but they can't also work with Opportunities/Leads.

Probably the best approach would be:

    - Do all users have same roles, or they have different roles within the application (Sales Person, regional sales, Sales Manager, System Administrator, etc)

    - Once roles are identified, list all entities and the type of access each role requires on that entity (Create, Read, Update, Delete).

    - If you notice several roles requiring Create/Update permissions on Lead, Account, Opportunities, Orders, then you'll need Sales licenses instead of Team Member.

    Hi Mark.

The best way is to contact the Sales in the right hand of the following page.
