All,

I have a situation whereby I want to restore data in a new sql installation but unfortunately I had not captured logins from the old server since the HDD got distorted.I have no other data except backups (in form of data files). How can I recovered the user logins in the new sql server installation son that GP users can resume to norm as soon as possible?

    Hi Ryan,
The one option is to manually create them inside GP using the Power User (SA) credentials and assign them to the proper company.

This is a bit time consuming, due to No. of users.

    Thanks,
    Shan

Romryan, have you got the old database files, including the Master DB, Dynamics DB and the company DB's ???

If not, then realistically the only option you have it manually create the users, assign them a simple password, recreate the user security.

Sorry to say that without the Master DB and others you really can not extract the user logins from anywhere else.

Have you been able to resolve the problem - have you gotten your users recreated?

    Hi Romryan,

If you have a large number of user/company relationships, I would build a macro using the information in tables SY01400 (users master) and SY60100 (user/company access). Build the macro to open the user access window and make the appropriate selection.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Romryan, Leslie is correct in that you can get them from the SY01400 and that the settings you had for the user are in the SY60100 table, however, I am still not clear on how the macro works - get the idea and concept but can not see it in my mind.

Where do you start?  I think it is too early in the morning to really think this hard.   Have a great day everyone.

    Gosh Bill,

11:10 AM is too early in the morning??? <snarky grin here>. The tricky part of the macro is that you are dealing with a scrolling window. What you know about a scrolling window is that your macro can only address visible rows. You'll need to organize your data such that you knew how many companies each user has access to and which line those boxes appear in. I wrote an article about macros and scrolling windows somewhere - or maybe it was a GPUG Webinar. I'll have to look. Anyway, you would use the mail-merge concept to actually create the macro.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

For starters, it was Thursday and there was a late hockey game on Wednesday, and yes 10:00 MST is early for us northerners.  LOL

Thanks for the information - I will look for the article and see if it can assist me in other matters.

thanks for the cheering up - need that sometimes.

Thanks Leslie!! This is a great tip - I never thought about this during implementations. Look forward to trying this out next time the need arises.

    Hi

I have a couple of videos that I created on using Macros inside the Dynamics GP windows that you may find useful:
