D365 F&O General Customization Question

I personally do not have access to visual studio, nor do I consider that to be the solution unless it was regarding an entity.  My question is, 'How can I make security modifications to items related to the Action Pane or Menu Items?'
As an example, a request will come up to remove the Transportation menu item from the Purchase Order Entry screen because they do not want anyone to access the action items below it.  Or maybe they want to leave the menu item but remove one of the action items.  Basically, we want to do the personalize - hide element and make it permanent for a particular user or group of users.

    Hi

You can try to use view personalization.
    I share the steps below:

If you want to only Hide some action menu points from one module, you follow the same path, but you right click on the particulary menu point and personalize.  Then choose "Hide".

    Remember to save the view.

Publish this view as default view to a role or specific users by navigating to System administration - Setup-Personalization.

    Best regards,

    Mia

    Hi Mia,
That was exactly the path we were headed and it worked with one exception.  When we published it and ran the simulation it came up as the default which is what we wanted.  However, in the dropdown it shows the one we created (twice) and the standard view with all of them still being an option (see attached).  We would like the newly created view being the only option if possible for the user(s) but this is working

    Hi,

    I understand :)
I am not sure that you will be able to "Hide" the "Standard views".
You can use field-level security to restrict users from seeing specific fields within any view, including the "Standard view."

Mia, Can you navigate where we can look at the field level security just in case that becomes the request?  Thank you

    Hi, sure
Here is the path - System administration - Setup - Security - Security configuration.
You will work with through roles, duties, privileges and permissions.

First: identify the table and field - right-click on the field in the UI - Form information - Form name to see the related tables and data sources.

Second: restrict menu item access - In the "Security configuration" form, find the relevant menu item associated with the form containing the field. Ensure the access level for the associated privilege is as restrictive as possible for example: "Read".

Third: adjust table permissions - within the permissions of a relevant privilege or duty.

Fourth: change the permission level for that field to be more restrictive than the overall table permission.

    Best regards,
    Mia

    Hi Mia,
Thanks for the information.  I didn't realize you can get to the field level permission through the security configuration.  When I drill down on the privilege it usually only shows me menu and action item security but I will dig a little deeper for some field information.

    Hi,

You can't have a "field security" to hide the views from the users. This is a system control, not bound to the data source of the form. So you will see all views unless you go for a cumbersome security policy which requires a customization.

Using the Security configuration form, you can (re)configure the security permissions and take away all access that is not required for the user. Note that some menu options in the action pane are menu items that can be controlled via display menu items on privileges. Other menu buttons might need a different approach. Some of them are tagged with a form control property that security can be managed via form permissions linked to the privilege. For the remaining buttons, a form extension (development) is required, or you can choose for a personalization and Saved views
