GP 2015 Word Template from modified report

We made a minor change to the sales invoices so now there is a modified version of that form. I went into Template Maintenance and created a new template and assigned it to the companies.  However, when I attempt to print an invoice as a template it prints a blank page tell me to refer to the word template documentation. Is there a way to build the template based on the modified invoice form or do I have to manually go into the template and add each field to the template?
