hi i am new to rms and i need to know what is the importance of lookup code and Alias

and what is the dirence betwen them in function

i am supermarket in my past i used to use the barcode only for item code and as well item lookup code

in supermarket we dont have alot of items that can hold many barcodes for the ame thing not more than 10 %

and rely it is not easy to work with item lookup as it is not printed on the products only barcodes there

i am thinking to include the item lookup code in the Alias in the 2d field while make the first the item barcode

can you help me to know the best way?

The lookup code is the part you will see most often, in item windows and reports. You can have only one item lookup code. You can have as many aliases for 1 item as you wish.

If you need to print labels, you'd be better off to have the barcode as the lookup code. The place I work for has the barcodes in aliases as most items have made up lookup codes that the employees know by memory and the barcodes are scanned with barcode scanners so they don't need the barcode in lists... What is best for me may not be best for you.

Hopefully this gives you an idea... TimB

If Tim's suggestion does not exactly work for you, our RITE Label program is capable of printing barcodes for the first alias of an item instead of the ILC.  There are a number of other features to this software as well.  If you are interested in learning more, please let me know.

The item lookup code means, it represents an item and in major cases we are using barcode number as item lookup code in RMS to represent an item. Alias code is in another table which is also linked to the item table with ItemID field. Alias will help the user to use more than one item lookupde for an item. To accomplish this, all you need to go to the Alias tab in item property window and add new one. So when you scan an item, it will first check with ILC and if not matching, it will look into the Alias table and if it comes matching, item will automatically add to the transaction window. I hope this will make sense.
