Un-allocating an inventory item that requires a serial number

Hello,

Currently within the inventory module, we are only tracking serial numbers for a certain product class of inventory items as they are issued from our warehouse. However, when items are ordered and brought in as goods for project inventory, we are unable to un-allocate them if needed. When I try to un-allocate these I receive a message saying that the serial number is missing and when I try to enter the serial number it says that the item does not exist. Has any experienced this problem? Any feedback would be appreciated.
