Multiple Services Setup

Posted on by 215

First off I am still somewhat new to Model Apps.
I am wondering about how to proceeded on my situation and if any of it is possible.

I work for a company that is a part of MANY different services that are separate companies that could utilize a CRM type system, nothing super in depth, i feel I could create what they need with my current level of knowledge.

What I am wondering is which path to take:

  • Somehow centralize all the primary data using a centralized table like contacts or something similar (clients). Then create separate tables for any additional data needed for the client record through a sub-grid.
    • Is there a way to identify which system they were entered in? as in were then entered through app1 or app2?
  • Other option is make one app but use permissions to limit what team sees what, i do feel this would be much more difficult to maintain though
    • I do feel I would run into the same type of issue with identifying what team entered int he information.

    @Lorne Rogers

    Sorry about the delay, but I honestly am just hoping to get my original question answered, maybe down the line this is a path we will take, but I just want to work on it myself and learn through the process.

    For MS partners you can start by using the partner directory search:

    partnerdirectory.microsoft.com/.../home

    For MCS, if you want to DM me your contact info, I can reach out on the partner community (I'm an MS partner) and get someone to contact you.

    @AriaConsulting

    Are you aware that MS offers DEEP discounts for NFP's?
    Yes

    Across pretty much everything they offer even including MCS (Microsoft Consulting Services)?
    Previously attempted looking into this, but didn't come across anything useful, most of the site is just story after story of what company they helped with little to no detail and no costs except "contact us". But honestly I would think that most likely it would be out of our budget, but I could be wrong.

    And that there are MS partners that specialize in working with NFP's?
    Unsure where I would even go to locate these contacts, any guidance is welcome. But again, budgeting is a large concern.

    Hubspot?  Or Pipedrive, Zoho (though their support is DISMAL), Monday.com, SugarCRM, Nimble, etc.?
    Looked at these and most are more expensive than the $10/user unlimited apps cost, or the $2.50/user/app pricing. (non profit pricing)

    Also we would like easy access to the data through the CDS for any of our reports through PowerBI. Yes I'm aware that most things PowerBI is able to extract the needed information.

    Thanks for the clarification.  Are you aware that MS offers DEEP discounts for NFP's? Across pretty much everything they offer even including MCS (Microsoft Consulting Services)?  And that there are MS partners that specialize in working with NFP's?  Just asking if you are of these things.

    If you are aware and have investigated and still don't believe it can be made to fit available budget, what about other solutions such as Hubspot?  Or Pipedrive, Zoho (though their support is DISMAL), Monday.com, SugarCRM, Nimble, etc.?

    @AriaConsulting

    The first question to ask from your post seems to be why you're posting to a D365 forum when you're looking at some form of custom application?
    I am using Model-Driven Application which is why I am posting in the D365 forum.

    WHY you would consider trying to custom build something that there are so MANY options on the market that offer more functionality than what you could likely custom develop and do so without the technical debt of a custom application and at a significantly lower TCO (given the total costs for dev and sustainment are spread across a client base)?
    Next to no budget as we are non-profit, reducing the cost to just licensing and not some custom setup by going to an outside vendor. Yes I know they will have a more specialized product, but that product is far beyond the budget of most of the departments.
    most vendors cost thousands to set up, then usually some sort of cost IF you want to have any sort of import. Then the licensing is more expensive than the licensing from MS for a PA license.

    Admittedly, I am biased towards buy over build whener the technology is not a KEY differentiator for the organization to its target market(s).  So, for instance, it obviously makes 101% sense for Uber to have developed a custom app and platform, but does not make sense for them to develop a custom ERP system to handle finance, procurement, etc.  And, generally, "CRM" would be unlikely to fall into the differentiator cataegory.
    I'm glad you have the budget.

    Clinton,

    Stepping aside from that for the moment, as someone with close to 25 years IT experience including 7 years 'titled' solution and enterprise architect experience, I feel compelled to ask WHY you would consider trying to custom build something that there are so MANY options on the market that offer more functionality than what you could likely custom develop and do so without the technical debt of a custom application and at a significantly lower TCO (given the total costs for dev and sustainment are spread across a client base)?
