Can we Sign up with the same Email id on the portal?

Hi,
I am trying to signup with same email address in different portal on same CRM instance. But it is not allowing me to register with that email giving error /Email is already taken/.
I deleted the duplicate detection rule but still I am getting same error.  If I am adding email manually it is allowing me to add that in contact table but restricting it from portal.
If anyone knows the solution for this. Please help.
