Hello,

recently, one of our customers wsnts to insert more characters on Itemreference number field on item reference table. Well, i know changing field lenght is not recommended, and therefore, is it possible with a workaorund solution?. Like a extra field o something.

thanks.

    Hi Lynix_x,

Is it the Cross-Reference No. field in the Item Cross Reference (Table 5717)?

Are you using Object Manager advanced? (idyn developers webinar Friday Dec. 11 2015 - Object Manager Advanced) With that you can check where your field is used in the application code and analyse how much of an impact would it be to change the field length but you have to be careful as your field value could be passed through functions with the limited length etc.

What is the customer requirement? How is this field used currently?

Is it customized field or standrd field of NAV?

If you increase the length of field then you need to carry out change everywhere where this field is used

This is a standard field. Therefore, i don't want to change that.

you are Correct Marcell, that's the field. Are there, any other workaround?, I'm thinking about creating an extra field and use it instead.

It's recommended to create a new field.

    Hello,

It is probably best to approach it that way but could you share more of your business process? Are you extending it because your vendor item numbers are too long, are you using bar codes? You should consider how much of the standard functionality you need to replicate with your custom field.
