Please start by confirming that the standard solution works and you have problem with your extension. If the whole thing doesn't work, your extension won't work either even if the implementation is flawless.
If the standard solution works, please tell us more about the problem ("proper data is not given" is way to vague), show us your code and tell us what you found when you debugged it.
