GP Desktop Client take really long time to generate report

Hello,

We have our GP Server in Microsoft cloud. When we use GP Desktop Client to run the report, it takes really long time to generate a simple report (30 minutes for 162 page report). When we run the same report in GP Terminal Server, it takes 2-3 minutes. We have verified that firewall settings are correct and network packets are not getting lost.

We are using GP2016. Any help which we can get will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

    Agree with Bill,

The Process server would take all the load and then you could deliver the report to the end-user..  Try that or if it doesn't help you'll to run a network analyzer and/or SQL trace to find out why it takes so much time to generate the report..

Not trying to put words in Beat's mouth here - but what I think he was driving at is that every time the desktop system accesses the server that takes some time, with a report as I recall everything has to 'return' to client before it continues.

One suggestion might be to put a 'process server' out there to off load the work from the client and thereby free it up to continue working on daily tasks.

Let us know if anything changes.

    Hello,

We have 200 Mbps and it has been verified that bandwidth is not the issue. Packets are also not getting dropped between corporate office and Azure. We have 100 Mbps thruput  but reporting really lags.

    Thanks,

    Akshay

    HI,

Are you saying that your run a full local GP client connected towards a GP server that is hosted in the cloud ? Uhm... what's the speed of your internet connexion ?

That would be like wanting to have a remote user from home thru the 10Mbps line trying to work with GP in your office... very likely to get him/her pissed off quickly. This is not a recommended configuration.. In order to run GP smoothly in a server/client configuration, your network needs to provide at least 100Mbps thruput.. better 1Gbps. Anything bellow that should only be running thru a TS or Web client.
