GP2010 - upgraded to 11.0.1935 and now SSRS reports don't work

Posted on by

A couple fo days ago I installed the latest GP update that come out on 5/31/12 that takes GP to version 11.0.1935.  After installing it, my SSRS reports are not working.  I get either a 'Select permission was denied' or an 'Execute permission was denied'.  These all worked fine before so I had the permissions correct.  I did try and re-deploy the reports after the update but still no luck.  I have a SQL script that I used to run to set up the permissions way back when and I tried running that again but still no luck.  Anyone else run into this and know what the secret is to get the reports working again?

Thanks
Jennifer

Are you still getting this error or has it been resolved?

Let us know if you still need anything further.

    Thank you.

I figured out what the issue was.  For the setup of the data sources on the report server website I have it set to Connect using: - Credentials stored securely in the report server.  The user name that I use for that didn't have the DYNGRP role.  After I fixed that, everything is working again.  Not sure how this update took away that role from that user.

    Thanks

    Jennifer,

I wouldn't recommend assigning your users directly to DYNGRP.  This gives them access to the database objects, meaning they could directly query or alter tables (bypassing GP security).

The rpt_* database roles were designed to give your users a more appropriate level of accessing for reporting.  They will give some select and execute permissions, but they won't give insert, delete, etc. permissions.

I'd try assigning your users to one of these rpt_* roles.  I think this should help to resolve your issues.

    Thanks

I use the DYNGRP role to have access to the database objects and give everyone that role.  Like I said this all worked fine before upgrading and now it doesn't.  I double checked and DYNGRP still has access to everything.  So, I can't figure out why SRS thinks the permissions aren't correct when I see they are set correctly.

    Thanks

    Jennifer,

The recommended approach is to assign your users to predefinied roles.  The roles should have access to the underlying database objects.  I'm guessing either your users aren't assigned to roles or your roles no longer have access to the database objects.  That's where I'd suggest you start looking.

    Thanks
