Understanding the entity store refresh options

Hi

I am currently trying to make sure that the entity store refresh is set-up and running frequently enough to meet business demands. But also not more frequently than needed and not rebuilding aggregate measure that we don't use and causing an unnecessary impact on performance.

But what I am discovered is the available options are unclear and do not appear to be fully documented anywhere. I have seen similar posts but the questions do not appear to have been fully answered. So I am posting these questions in the hope that some one else can has had more luck than me in understanding how to set-up the refresh.   I am running 10.0.11 platform update 35 and I have attached  a screen shot of the options I  have under System Administration > set-up > Entity Store

Questions

  1. If I enable automatic refresh  do I  need to press refresh or is this just to force an immediate refresh?
  2. Are the business hours under enforce offline hours the normal working hours say 9:00am to  5:00pm or the out of ours window say 6pm to 8:00am?
  3. Does GMT in brackets after business hours as I suspect stand for Greenwich Mean Time?  If so then do I need to adjust these for my own time zone GMT+10?
  4. The batch job created when I select refresh against any measure has a description of full reset and there is no way I can find to identify which measures the job relates to or is there?
  5. Do all the measures that are set to automatic refresh get added to the same batch job?
  6. Even though I have set the automatic refresh to daily, the recurrence on the full reset batch job is set to every 5 minutes. Am I missing something is this doing an incremental refresh even though the job description says full reset?

Thanks in advance to any one who can help answering  these questions.

Best regards,

Simon

    Hi Tracy

thanks for your help in responding to my questions.

have tested the working hours in a sandbox environment and it appears to work as you have said outside of the hours I have specified.  But it seemed to take my times as local and not GMT. I will run some other tests to confirm but that will make it easier if I don't have to convert to GMT equivalent times.

I had seen that documentation before but no there is no mention of the option to enforce offline hours that I could see, hence the question.

    Best regards

    1. According to:docs.microsoft.com/.../automated-entity-store-refresh,

After the new experience is turned on, you can define the refresh for each aggregate measurement. And refresh will occur according to the recurrence.

An admin can also refresh any aggregate measurement on demand by clicking the Refresh button.

    2. When you choose to enable the "enforce offline hours" it gives you the option to set the business hours. If you set working hours from 9:00am to 5:00 pm, it means the offline hours should before 9:00 am and after 5:00PM.

    3. GMT means Greenwich Mean Time

    6. Always the first time is full push for any entity, the others times are incremental when you choose to enable the recurring

    Hi Sukrut

thanks, yes I am going to set-up a test to verify the thinking on the business hours and good to know there is no longer an incremental refresh so I don't need to investigate that option any further.

It would be nice of course if this was documented in docs somewhere so I did not have to spend time finding out by trial and error.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Best regards

    Hi Simon ,

What I think about business hours option is when you enable enforce offline hours check box and specify your business  hours in gmt refresh will happen in those hours . You can try and check it.

The refresh button on top is on demand refresh . If you enable auto refresh the time of the batch job decides the refresh time.

With new options o it only does full reset . With older form there was a option for incremental refresh.

RE: Understanding the entity store refresh options

    Hi Saurabh

thanks for your quick reply, can I just verify that I have understood your answers correctly.

    1. If I select automatic refresh and enforce offline hours the times I specify under business hours is the time window when the refresh of that measure will occur? Since I am using D365 online rather than on-premise the times are shown in server time zone which I  have to assume is my local time zone since the are hosted in an Azure data centre locally in the same city?  I can and will test this in the UAT sandbox to verify this.

    2. There are two refresh buttons one in the top ribbon menu if I hover the mouse pointer on this it says force a full or incremental refresh. The other refresh button is located below the switch to turn on automatic refresh if I hover the mouse pointer over this button it just says refresh. Does 1 or both of this buttons force a full refresh. . I Selecting the refresh button forces a full refresh of the selected measure?

    3. I only see one batch job running and nothing  with a description of full reset. I will try the refresh button on the ribbon menu to see if this creates a second batch job for incremental refresh.

So I am not sure I have fully solved my questions but I am getting a little closer.

    Best regards

    Simon

    Hi Simon,

    1. Yes it will automatically refresh within business hours window, timezone depends on server timezone for batch process run

    2. Yes, all measure and data will get refreshed with this process

    3. In my opinion there  should be one more batch job for incremental
