Password Change Failed for an Unknown Reason

Hello:

Back when I was a consultant, I moved GP data to new SQL servers many times.  I'm familiar with the steps involved.

Also, I know that when you move data to a new server, you have to change the password of every GP user.

The policy at my company is to "Enforce Password Policy", including the use of complex SQL passwords for GP and to have users change their passwords at their initial login session.

We are testing the move of data.  Although the installation of GP 2013 R2 (12.00.1920) and its integrating apps went well, I cannot successfully change GP user passwords.

Specifically, in the GP User Setup window, I will change a password to something complex and have the three Advanced SQL Server checkboxes at the bottom of the window checked.

When I try to login to the main GP screen with this new password, GP accepts it and prompts me to change it.  That's good.

But, no matter what I change it to, I get the message saying that the "login failed for an unknown reason and to contact your administrator".

I tried this with two GP user IDs, in this test environment.

I have tried every remedy that I have found in my own arsenal of technical documents and those online but to no effect.

Now, some of the IT people that I work with do not believe in using the steps for the "Capture_Logins.sql" script.  I have no doubt that those steps were not taken.

In any case, the only user that can successfully login to GP in this test environment is "sa".

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

John

    Hi John,

    Have you tried the following.

Check the ODBC is pointing 32 bit OBDC.

    Hi John,

    Sorry to ask again.

Is the user logs into GP using remote desktop connection if so did you verify whether the odbc is under that user in  \Windows\SysWoW64\odbcad32.exe is showing connection, which is used by the user.

How it the GP application accessed through remote desktop(RDP) or individual system.

    Hi Babu:

Since this is a new environment, I have not opened up it up yet for users to test.  So, I'm simply accessing it through Remote Desktop Connection.

I go right onto the Terminal Server.

    Hi John,

Have you tried to untick the change the password on the next login and make the user to change the password after login to GP under user preference.  I have experienced exactly the same and vaguely remember that i done this way :-)

    Hi Babu:

Yes, I tried this.  I'm afraid that it told me that the login failed.
