Salesforce to MSCRM Integration

Hi Experts,

I am currently using Salesforce but find that Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM better suits my business needs. I am planning to migrate both Data and Customizations from Salesforce to Dynamics 365.

While I understand that there are tools for data migration, I’m also concerned about moving Customizations, such as:

  • Custom objects and fields

My questions are:

  1. Are there specific tools or methods to help migrate both data and customizations?
  2. Do I need to recreate customizations manually in Dynamics 365, or is there an automated way to transfer metadata?
  3. What are the best practices to ensure a smooth transition for both data and customizations?

Any recommendations, tools, or guides to help me with this migration process would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

    Hi Paul,

Migrating from Salesforce to Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM—especially when it involves both data and customizations—is a strategic move that requires careful planning and the right tools. Here's a comprehensive overview to help guide your transition:

    1. Migration Tools for Data and Metadata

    • Data Migration:

      • Use Data Export from Salesforce to extract .csv files.

      • Import into Dynamics 365 using Data Management tools or Power Platform Dataflows [1].

      • Tools like KingswaySoft (SSIS) and Scribe offer robust ETL capabilities for complex data migration [2].

    • Metadata & Customizations:

      • Tools like XitForce and Persistent SwiftShift can automate schema generation and metadata mapping from Salesforce to Dynamics 365 [3].

      • These tools help replicate custom objects, fields, and relationships with minimal manual effort.

    •

    2. Do You Need to Recreate Customizations Manually?

Not necessarily. While some customizations (like workflows or Apex code) may need to be reimagined using Power Automate, Business Rules, or Plugins, many structural elements (custom fields, entities) can be mapped and recreated using migration tools.

However, custom logic and automation often require redesign due to platform differences [4].

    3. Best Practices for a Smooth Transition

Here are key lessons from enterprise-scale migrations [5]:

    • Start with Business Capabilities: Don’t replicate Salesforce customizations 1:1. Instead, align with business outcomes and use native Dynamics features like Business Process Flows and Power Apps.

    • Clean and Align Your Data: Audit and deduplicate before migration. Avoid carrying over unused fields or outdated records.

    • Engage Stakeholders Early: Validate which data and processes are essential. This helps streamline the new system and improve adoption.

    • Train Users and Monitor Performance: Post-migration, invest in training and performance monitoring to ensure a smooth transition.

    •

    4. Recommendations

    • Consider working with a certified Dynamics 365 partner to guide the migration and provide tailored support.

    • Use Power Platform tools to modernize workflows and dashboards.

    • Plan for data validation, user training, and ongoing support post-migration.

    •

Please verify if this overview helps you move forward confidently with your migration.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Daniele

Hi Paul Sherick , great question! Migrating from Salesforce to Dynamics 365 isn’t just about moving data and custom objects; it’s a real chance to streamline your processes and unlock new capabilities like built-in AI, automation, and tighter Microsoft 365 integration.

For data migration, tools like KingswaySoft, Power Platform Dataflows, and XRM Toolbox work well. Customizations (like objects and fields) often need to be recreated in Dynamics, but with the right mapping and planning, this can be streamlined and even improved upon.
