How to remove, delete or erase the existing records in Fixed Assets?

Hi Experts,

First, Sorry for the Subject name :)

Let me explain first the requirements.

We will insert/import all our assets in AX. What we want is start all over.

But upon checking in Fixed Asset there are some records already (new guy :D), some of my team said that they put up for testing (437 Records).

How we will start from scratch? Do we just click the delete button?
How we will delete all existing record from the fixed without any problems or effect in any books or ledger in AX?

Your advice, guide and help will highly appreciated and considered.

Thank you in advance.

    Hi Jhon Edmar Tarlac,

Do you have transactions recorded (acquisitions, depreciations, ...) for those fixed assets or have the fixed asset records just been created?

If they have been created only you should be able to delete them easily in the fixed asset module by selecting all of the fixed assets and deleting them.

In case you have already transactions posted things are different.

One option is setting up a new company account.

If this is not feasible you can delete all transactions that have been posted in the company.

This has already been discussed multiple times on this forum.

    See e.g. community.dynamics.com/.../97321

Note: Before using this carefully check what is deleted to ensure that you do not lose data that you actually do not want to have deleted.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Sukrut,

    Thanks for the reply.

I am not sure and my team because those records inserted is along time ago. All the developers here are new :)

    Hi,

Just select one fixed asset and then press the value model/book button on the top. A new form will open where you can identify another transaction button. Click that one and see if fixed asset postings are recorded for a specific asset.

You can also make use of the inquiry function and search the fixes asset postings or run one of the fixes asset transaction reports.

    Best regards

    Ludwig

    Good Morning Jhon,

The report shows that acquisitions have been posted, which means that you cannot simply delete your fixed assets that have postings recorded.

If you have additional fixed assets that are not listed in this report then you should be able to simply delete them.

As you have only 3 transactions posted you can quickly reverse them - probably with the help of a fixed asset accountant - to get those balances and amounts cleared. This should not take longer than a couple of minutes. Once that is done, you can delete all other fixed assets and start the import again. For the 3 fixed assets affected, you have to use a different fixed asset id as you cannot delete the existing records.

An alternative is deleting all transactions as described in this post: community.dynamics.com/.../97321

The disadvantage of doing that is that it really clears everything even non-fixed asset related transactions.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
