I would like to change one part of an existing report - the Financial-Trial Balance-Summary-Capital Spending report uses a range of accounts to report on. I would like to be able to select multiple, non-consecutive accounts to report on - however, I cannot find in the report def where the selection criteria is set. I am new to both GP, Report Writer, and have spent hours so far reading manuals, online help, and posts to forums. Any assist is appreciated!

It is possible to get what I think you need out of Report Writer but it is not pretty.
You can put restrictions in Report Writer to restrict the report by account number. Since this restriction is not something you can do from the report options window, you will need to 'hard code' any restriction and change them as appropriate.
Please let us know if you need more help. Report Writer is pre-historic, but you can massage it a little bit.
Kind regards,
Leslie
Thanks for the insight!
Jeanne, jeff was referring to FRx, which is a financial statements reporting tool. Report Writer is a different animal and does not utlize Row Formats as FRx does. I don't know if selecting non-consecutive accounts is even possible in Report Writer. RW doesn't provide selection parameters like SSRS and Crystal do.
It might be possible to do what you're asking - someone else with advanced RW skills will need to chime in here.
Do your users need a full trial balance with all activity that a detailed TB provides or are do they just need account-level summary info?
Thanks! I have not found the Row Format within Report Writer yet.
We're on GP 9 - I am trying to figure out SRSS for a report on another application. Will certainly help once I get the hang of it, but not much learning time vs. need to get the finance folks what they currently need.
Any ideas with this function from within Report Writer for version 9?
Jeanne, what GP version are you on? GP10 provides the ability in List View to select non-sequential accounts to report on, however its ability to function as a true trial balance is limited. What you're trying to accomplish would be much easier in Crystal or SQL Server Reporting Services.
I believe jeff is referrring to FRx, not Report Writer.
If you go into Row Format. Then go to the right side of that page to "link to general ledger". Double click on a box in that column. you can then enter any g/l numbers you would like.
