Physical Inventory Journal

Hi,

Is there any way possible in NAV 2016 (without mods) to be able to lock inventory transactions on items (by location, i.e SKUs) while they are loaded in the Physical Inventory Journal list?

When we trigger the stock-take process, we want to be able to block users processing SO's, Transfer, POs etc

The reason for this is we want to conduct cycle counts / stock-takes with sections of the warehouse at a time staged over a number of days.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi CILGroup,

Thank you for posting your question to the forums about locking Inventory Transactions on items by location/sku while Physical Inventory Journal is loading.

Is this "Stock-Take Process" you refer to part of the NAV 2016.  I'm wondering if this is a country specific localization or some add-on.   I read the following post so it seems this may be in the product, however I've never seen it, so I'm not really sure what that is about..

But generally speaking, we have a field on the Item Card called 'Blocked'.  You can set that, however we don't have it on the SKU (Location) which you may be looking for.  I know you mentioned (No Mods), but perhaps your Partner could add that field and some similar logic on the SKU card to block certain Item SKU's from being posted during your cycle counts.  But again, out of the Box NAV, doesn't have that.

One other option, which may totally be a bit far fetched perhaps, according to your setup, configuration, and business process (which I know neither of) but generally speaking, if using Bins, you could reclass that quantity into some type of Holding Bin.   In the Bin Contents, you can set the 'Block Movement' to ALL.  Again, it depends on your configuration, but that is some ideas you can play around with in Cronus to see if it will fit your situation.  Thanks much and have a nice weekend

As such there's no special out of the box functionality for this, why not to do this in certain downtime instead of doing any sort  of small customisation for this - Blocking Items would be one of the work around but it too depends on the volume of items you have to do this for entire Items.

    Thanks for your responses.

By stocktake process I am referring the Physical Inventory Journal process. The reason we need this at the moment is due to coronavirus. We can't have all of the staff present like we normally do and close the business for one day. We need to have fewer number of staff performing mini Physical Inventory Journals (i.e. isles or product group at a time).

Therefore I was thinking it would be great if NAV can block/lock items that are in the Physical Inventory Journal list (in our case its item by location and shelf no). This would then allow customer service to continue with order processing etc for any item other than those in the Physical Inventory List.

What you are asking is not possible without mods. You need to take a cut down period and then do this activity, i don't think practically its possible to block the items in a running business for stock take.
